RGB 248, 244, 233, or HSL 44°, 52%, 94%.
Unbleached natural.
It holds 19.1:1 contrast against dark, so Kinari works best for body text, headings, and UI labels. (On white it scores 1.1:1; on black 19.1:1.)
Across Sanzo Wada's 1933 Dictionary of Color Combinations, Kinari appears in 14 combinations — most often paired with Kinari, Sumi and Sakura.
Kinari (生成) — literally 'unbleached' or 'made-as-is' — is the colour of natural undyed silk, raw linen, and unbleached cotton. It's not white; it's the warmest of cream tones, with the tan undertone that fibres carry before bleaching. The word itself denotes the philosophical stance of leaving material in its natural state.
In Japandi colour systems kinari is the warm-anchor variant: where gofun pulls cool-white, kinari pulls warm-cream. The choice between them sets the temperature of the entire palette. A Japandi room anchored on kinari reads as cosy and traditional; the same room anchored on gofun reads as spare and architectural.

From a standard colour wheel, Kinari anchors these four classic schemes. Each swatch is computed from its exact hue, so every hex is a real, usable pairing.
the hue directly opposite — the highest-contrast pairing, good for a single bold accent.
the two neighbours on the wheel — a calm, cohesive scheme that feels effortless.
two hues an even third of the wheel away — balanced and lively without clashing.
the two colours either side of the complement — the contrast of a complement, softened.
Kinari is a light, muted tone (HSL 44°, 52%, 94%), which makes it a soft background or a light accent. For text it passes WCAG AA for body text against a dark background (19.1:1) — safe for paragraphs, buttons and labels. When you do set type on it, use dark lettering. Pair it with its complement (#E9EDF8) for a focal accent, or with its analogous neighbours (#F8EDE9 and #F4F8E9) for a quieter, harmonious feel.
